The English language program has a wide diversity in the curriculum and is suitable for high school graduates, and professionals from other fields who are looking for a career change, since knowledge of the English language is necessary for academic success, for study abroad, to use scientific resources as well as to work in any industry.

The program includes a wide range of subjects from both English Language and Literature, as well as interdisciplinary courses. Interdisciplinary courses encourage critical thinking and help students connect concepts across disciplines as well as encourage students to tackle complex problems that cannot be addressed within the boundaries of a single discipline. These courses open doors to collaborative projects, developing team and communication skills, teaching students to effectively spread their ideas across disciplines.

Given that nowadays, English is an important medium of communication and science, UBT College, as one of the most renowned institutions of higher education in the country, offers studies in the English Language program, to strengthen the presence and the use of English as an international language of communication. This program offers students the opportunity to qualify as English language professionals meeting the needs of the current job market in the country and beyond.

The English Language program has a wide diversity in the curriculum and is suitable for high school graduates, and professionals from other fields seeking a career change. The program includes a wide range of subjects from both English language and literature as well as interdisciplinary subjects. Therefore, there are various opportunities for English language graduates to work in the field of translation, interpretation, journalism, tourism, teaching, international relations, business interpretation, editing and creative writing. Graduates can also pursue their careers in international organizations, such as the European Union, as well as work in various embassies.

The English Language Program is built in line with the Bologna process for the university level in order to be recognized within the Higher Education of the European region. Consequently, the program aims to prepare UBT graduates for the labor market in Europe and beyond.

 

What makes us different?

The English Language program provides students with in-depth knowledge in the field of language and culture and at the same time guides them in other areas, which will be taught in the coming years of study. With the three-year study program, students are given the opportunity for internships, which will enable them to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in their fields of study. The English language curriculum aims to create a balanced combination of knowledge in English language and literature with a range of interdisciplinary subjects that are of considerable importance in their professional development.

 

The structure of the three-year program is self-contained and aims to provide a more dynamic, integrative and interactive approach to topics in the field of language, cultures, communication and translation. All of these concepts will be elaborated and explored in detail throughout the curriculum. The courses included in this program present perspectives which are based on theories closely related to the practical application in the world of language, culture, art, education and communication.

 

The overall objective of the program is:

 

  • To prepare students to build a career related to their profession in the public, private and non-governmental sector.
  • To offer a variety of modules which include knowledge of the professions which are linked to English Language and culture.
  • To develop the concept of critical thinking.
  • To enable students to actively participate in lectures and do autonomous research in all the fields of the social, educational, cultural and scientific organizations.
  • To give students opportunities for development of their personal, communicative, research and other valuable skills which are needed for employment.

 

What does the English Language Program offer?

The Faculty of English Language has designed a specific program taking into account market demands from local, regional and global development trends and labour market demands. The program is designed based on the most important factors and measurable indicators of economic development needs and new job opportunities in local and international markets.

The introductory resources to design the English language program are taken starting from the National Employment Strategy and the National Economic Development Plan as well as the views of private business in Kosovo.

The program design process has also taken into account the creation of modern infrastructure and academic staff with experience and excellent knowledge in the field of English Language. In this case, new infrastructure has been set up, the existing infrastructure has been renovated, the technology for proactive learning has been modernized in the electronic platform ‘Moodle’ and the learning environment has been equipped with the necessary tools and adequate books for modern professional study.

The English Language Program is a program accredited by international experts in the field of English Language and Literature, as well as the Accreditation Agency of the Republic of Kosovo for the period 2021-2024.

Accreditation is a process that has the task of identifying whether the programs are adequate, meet all national and international academic norms and standards, and that they are necessary programs for economic development and the labour market.
