Studying Italian Language and Culture at UBT / Studiare la lingua e cultura italiana all’UBT

At UBT, you can also study the Italian Language and Culture. Depending on your programme, it can be selected as an elective course lasting one or two semesters, after which you may continue to study it as an extracurricular subject. In the first casa it is a curricular subject in every respect and, upon passing the final exam, it appears on the transcript of records. If it is extracurricular, upon passing the final exam, it appears in the annex to the transcript of records. Italian general courses are currently offered from levels A to D (see here for the Italian A syllabus); students who already have some knowledge of Italian, following a placement test, are assigned to the course that matches their actual level. All staff are highly qualified and deliver engaging lessons aligning with the objectives set out in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages CEFR. UBT’s Institute for Foreign Languages – Instituti e Gjuhëve të Huaja – is accredited to issue nationally recognised Italian certificates, also offering the internationally recognised CELI certification exams from the Università per Stranieri di Perugia.

One of UBT’s aim is to equip our students with the linguistic and intercultural skills needed to excel in the local job market. We also aim to enable them to access higher levels of education both in Kosovo and, if wished, in Italian-speaking countries. This is achieved through scholarships, exchange programmes, dual degree schemes and other initiatives.

UBT works closely with the Italian Embassy in Kosovo. For example, we access its extensive cultural programme, which includes many joint, tailored activities. We also collaborate in the publishing sector, enabling us to open and operate an ‘Italian Corner’ in our library. Furthermore, thanks to an agreement with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, we have a visiting lecturer from Italy as an integral part of our staff.
