Mission of the Energy Engineering Faculty
The mission of the Faculty of Energy Engineering is to deliver high-quality engineering education by combining theoretical knowledge with practical application, while promoting creativity, upholding ethical principles, and fostering research development. We are committed to supporting the professional growth of our academic staff, strengthening international partnerships with universities and industry, and preparing students to succeed in their careers as they advance technology and benefit society.
Study Programs of the Energy Engineering Faculty
The Faculty of Energy Engineering offers two accredited study programs:
- Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Energy Engineering
- Master of Science (MSc) in Energy Engineering and Environment
These programs provide comprehensive academic and professional education in the interdisciplinary fields of Energy Engineering and Environmental Engineering.
The Energy Engineering BSc program provides undergraduate-level education and establishes the fundamental scientific, technical, and professional competencies required for a career in the energy sector, while the Energy Engineering MSc program provides advanced and specialized education, enabling students to deepen their knowledge and develop research, analytical, and professional competencies in energy and environmental engineering.
Through these programs, students acquire knowledge and practical skills in key areas of contemporary energy systems, including: Power Systems, Renewable Energy Systems (RES), Sustainable Energy Generation, Energy Efficiency, Smart Grids and Microgrids, Digitalization of Power Systems, Energy Storage and the Environmental Impacts of Energy Production and Consumption.
Power and energy systems are an essential part of modern society and have extensive applications across virtually all sectors, including industry, transportation, buildings, information and communication technologies, and public infrastructure. The increasing integration of renewable energy sources, digital technologies, automation, smart grids, and sustainable energy solutions is transforming the energy sector and creating new technical and professional challenges. Consequently, the study of Energy Engineering is both highly relevant and increasingly important for addressing current and future societal, economic, and environmental needs.
Considering the continuing development of the power sector and the increasing deployment of renewable and sustainable energy technologies, there is a growing need for highly qualified engineers with multidisciplinary knowledge and practical competencies. In this context, the Energy Engineering BSc program and Energy Engineering and Environment MSc program, are designed to respond to the current and future needs of the energy industry and society by preparing graduates with the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to contribute effectively to the energy transition.
Graduates of these programs are prepared for professional careers in areas such as: Electricity generation, transmission and distribution, renewable energy systems, energy efficiency, smart and digital power systems, environmental assessment, energy management, etc. The programs also provide a strong foundation for further professional development, lifelong learning, research, and innovation.
A key feature of the programs is their connection with industry and professional practice. Students have opportunities to develop practical competencies through cooperation with energy-sector stakeholders and industry partners. In particular, students enrolled in the Energy Engineering BSc program are required to successfully complete an internship or professional practice component, allowing them to apply their academic knowledge in a real working environment and gain direct experience of professional practices within the energy sector.
Recognizing that contemporary engineers must be capable of addressing complex engineering challenges, applying advanced technologies, and developing sustainable solutions, UBT has designed these study programs to combine theoretical knowledge with practical experience, analytical thinking, problem-solving, innovation, and research. The programs are informed by relevant European and international academic practices and developments in the fields of Energy Engineering and Environmental Engineering.
Students are also provided with opportunities to specialize in areas that correspond to their academic and professional interests through their Bachelor’s and Master’s thesis projects. These projects enable students to independently investigate relevant engineering problems, apply scientific and technical methodologies, and develop solutions to practical and research-oriented challenges.
Through these two accredited programs, the Faculty of Energy Engineering aims to educate a new generation of competent, innovative, and responsible engineers who are prepared to contribute to the sustainable development and modernization of the energy sector, address environmental challenges, and support the transition towards cleaner, smarter, and more efficient energy.
