Students from the Faculty of Architecture and the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Infrastructure at UBT, headed by Professor Dr. Muhamet Ahmeti, conducted a study visit to the Republic of Macedonia from 12 to 14 June.

Sponsored by the German company for the production of construction materials “Knauf”, a total of 42 students of the UBT visited the factory for the production of gypsum materials “Knauf” in Dibra, where they were closely introduced to the work of the factory for the production of gypsum and other construction materials used in architecture and construction.

The representatives of “Knauf” informed the students about the history of this factory which was earlier called “Radika” and which after the privatization was taken over by the German company “Knauf”.

This is one of the largest factories in the region. The raw material is unique and the only one in the world. Only one factory which owns reserves of approximate silicate gypsum is located in Mexico.

The students visited the mine where they had the opportunity to see the 100 percent clear silicate gypsum, as well as other gypsum minerals in various shapes and colors according to chemical composition.

The students had also the opportunity to visit the department for the production of various gypsum materials, as well as the department for the production of gypsum tiles, where the production capacity of these tiles is 50,000 square meters daily.

The students also visited the laboratory where these materials are tested.

During the visit, the students also visited Struga, Ohrid, St. Naum, the national park “Galiqica” and some important historical and architectural buildings of this part.
