Ambassador Qemal Minxhozi discussed at UBT about economic cooperation and future plans between Kosovo and Albania

At the end of 2018, and to note the close cooperation between UBT and the Albanian Embassy in Kosovo, Ambassador Qemal Minxhozi held an opened discussion with UBT staff and students, with whom he discussed the most important issues that have characterized our countries during the past year, including education, economy, tourism and concretization of future agreements and cooperation.

 

As a profiled institution in education, UBT rector, prof. dr Edmond Hajrizi emphasized the focus of his speech on cooperation for raising the level of education, while stressing that it is vital to utilize the potential of the academy in order to raise professional competences in areas of interest for both countries.

“UBT expresses its willingness to cooperate with the universities of Albania so that Kosovo and Albania students have access to double degrees and also benefit from mobility opportunities,” said Hajrizi.

 

On the other hand, during his discussion with the attendees, Ambassador Qemal Minxhozi addressed the most important issues which, according to him, directly influenced the development of both countries, and that will also change the future of cooperation. He also talked about the reducing of the tariff to zero, starting from June 15, 2019.

 

Referring the economic field, he indicated that with the changes that the economic policies of the countries have undergone during the last two years, there has been an increase in the exchange of goods.

“For the last two years there is an export growth in the amount of 70 to 80 million euros, which means Albania is the main economic partner of Kosovo. Although Albania has a lower level of exports to Kosovo, however, this amount has increased compared to previous years,” Minxhozi explained.

 

Tourism is of significant importance for both countries, and according to Minxhozi, there is an urging need for a close collaboration, especially to remove the legal barriers.

 

The discussion was also enriched by the questions posed by the participants, who elaborated topics regarding the electric energy, creating the opportunity for employment of the workforce from Kosovo to Albania, the initiation of common projects in the field of agriculture, etc.
