Scientific Research

At the Faculty of Art and Design, creativity doesn’t stay on paper – it transforms into ideas, projects, and experiences that shape the world around us. Through our labs, research centers, and innovative clusters, we help students and staff explore every step of the creative journey: from the first sketches to international exhibitions, performances, and publications.

Here, research is not just academic – it is practical, contemporary, and closely connected to industry. Our students work side by side with designers, artists, directors, and creative companies, developing projects that impact fashion, digital design, contemporary art, and the theaters of the future.

Research Objectives

  • Establish research centers and clusters for Design, Fashion, Art, Digital Art, Music, and Dramatic Arts to foster interdisciplinary collaborations and create a critical mass for innovation.
  • Strengthen the link between research and teaching by integrating scientific and artistic findings into courses, studios, and workshops.
  • Collaborate with industry, public institutions, and local and international academia for the transfer of knowledge and technology.
  • Support practice-based research through exhibitions, performances, and publications indexed on international platforms (such as EBSCO and SCOPUS).
  • Promote sustainable practices in design, fashion, and the performing arts, contributing to the green development of the creative industries.

Priority Research Areas

  • Sustainable and circular design– including sustainable fashion, virtual prototyping, and energy-efficient spaces.
  • Digital and creative technologies– from UI/UX design and visual communication to new media such as VR/AR, animation, NFTs, and Blockchain.
  • Performing arts and innovative theater– research on dramaturgy, AI-assisted choreography, and green scenography.
  • Cultural heritage and identity– studies on traditional fashion, ethnography, gender representation, and the relationship between creativity and identity.
  • Practice-based research and publications– using exhibitions, performances, and scholarly publications as platforms for testing and sharing ideas.
  • Entrepreneurship and creative industries– exploring new funding models, public-private partnerships, and involving students in international innovation networks such as Horizon Europe and the Western Balkans Research and Innovation Initiative.

Through these objectives and research areas, the Faculty of Art and Design at UBT aims to be a leader in advancing knowledge, innovation, and cultural impact in Kosovo, building bridges between education, industry, and the community.
