UBT and “Arbëri” college have organized a thematic lecture regarding the Week against corruption

In the framework of the week against corruption, UBT and Arbëri college have organized a thematic lecture in collaboration with the Kosovo Police, in Gjilan with the topic, “Countering criminal offences such as corruption”. They also availed from the occasion to carry out a campaign which aimed at raising awareness with the motto “Zero bribes for the corrupted”.

 

This thematic lecture aimed at raising awareness among the public opinion and students about the importance of countering corruption.

 

While talking about the achievements from the bodies of Justice Luan Ibrahimi who is actually an official of the Regional Unit for Investigation of Economic Crimes and Corruption highlighted that this year has been of significant importance and has marked great achievements concerning the number of arrested persons who were suspected to have committed the criminal offence of corruption.

 

Furthermore he underlined that during the previous year there have been witnessed many cases of corruption and as a matter of a fact he asked for collaboration with the respective institutions in order to minimize the specific cases.

 

“This campaign ought to contribute to raising awareness among the whole public opinion, whereas a large number of cases are being scrutinized. We must work together to lower the level of corruption”, stated Ibrahimi.

 

According to him the Kosovo Police aims to counter corruption particularly in the judicial institutions and public administration.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Whereas the head of the Court of General Jurisdiction, Ramiz Azizi, claimed that the struggles against these phenomena have started during the recent years, particularly after the founding of anti-corruption mechanisms.

 

Furthermore he emphasized that the judicial institutions are facing numerous challenges owing to the lack of political will and professional experience.

 

“There has been paid a particular attention to the subjects which are concerned with cases of corruption. Only this year there has been an huge legal gap coming as a result of lack of professional preparation. As a result, 75% of indictments have been left untreated”, underlined Azizi.

 

During this lecture there was also discussed about the active and passive corruption, punishments and measures against corruption. Besides that part of this panel also became the

 

The ombudsman,  Hilmi Jashari, and several representatives from the “Economic Chamber of Kosovo”.

 

According to the index regarding the perception of corruption for 2017, published by “Transparency International 2017”, Kosovo has made improved in the struggles against corruption being ranked in the 85 place among 200 countries, and has earned 39 points from an overall number of 100 points.
