Equality and Diversity

UBT community is made up of students and staff who are recruited locally, nationally and internationally. Many identities and experiences shape the diversity of our community including: gender and gender identity; ethnicity; culture and nationality; sexual orientation; physical learning and mental health disabilities; having religious or other beliefs; age and combining career or study with caring responsibilities. Furthermore, we want our staff and students to feel they are an integral part of the UBT community, and together we have created an inclusive culture where everyone can contribute to university life, knowledge and growth.

UBT recognizes that providing equality of opportunity, valuing diversity and promoting a culture of inclusion is vital to our success. By creating a working, learning and social environment in which individuals can utilize their skills and talents to the full without fear and prejudice or harassment, we aim to create a culture where everyone can reach their fullest potential. Our aim is to make full use of people’s talents and skills by creating and open and inclusive workplace culture where people from all backgrounds can work together with dignity and respect. We will make active steps to fulfill our responsibilities and promote good practice by:

  • Developing University – wide diversity objectives as well as mainstreaming equality and diversity in to the University’s planning progress for all departments and colleges
  • Taking measures to eliminate discrimination
  • Taking actions to redress any gender, racial or other imbalance including monitoring the recruitment and progress of all students and staff
  • Fostering good relations between persons who share a protected characteristic and persons who do not
  • Making sure reasonable adjustments are made, as appropriate , to enable disabled staff and students to overcome barriers in the working, learning and social environment
  • Dealing with potential and actual acts of discrimination, harassment and bullying appropriately under relevant University policy and taking appropriate actions where necessary.
