In the UBT began campaigning for consumer protection

Prishtina, March 13, 2012. – experts and representatives of the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI)of the Republic of Kosovo, organized debate, with  the students and local and international academic staff of the UBT. The subject of the order was “The role and importance of consumer protection”, and in this institution, they launched the campaign “Week of the customer”. “In Kosovo there is sufficient information for consumer protection, but it is the initial stage but  soon it will be understood the personal right of the consumer for any service,” said Mr. Arifi, head of the Division of Market Regulation of MTI.

 

He added the basic principles of consumer protection and some of them are: like cooperation, coordination, control, surveillance, awareness, education etc.. Also Mr. Arifi said Kosovo has the law of consumer  protection, which is functional and enforced, as well as comparable countries in the region and beyond.

 

 

“The consumer has the right to protect economic interests, life from danger, health and property, but the consumer has the right to appeal in order to protect the most diverse as compensation in certain cases for damages. In Kosovo there are institutional mechanisms for consumer protection as the Office for Consumer Protection in MTI, the Council for Consumer Protection, Food and Veterinary Agency, Pharmaceutical Products Agency, Central Inspectorate of MTI Market Inspectorate, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Sanitary Inspectorate, Inspectorate for the Protection of the Environment, Agriculture Inspectorate and in the end the Court, “he said, adding that in Kosovo, consumers are also protected by the highest state institutions like the Government of Kosovo with the relevant ministries such as Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Rural Development, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning, Ministry of Infrastructure, and also other government agencies.

 

But the Dean of the Faculty Management, Business and Economics at UBT, prof. dr. Musa Limani said before the students that they should check the bill that emerges from the ark, and if the item has no price or expired, authorities should be notified.

 

He also mentioned additional activities for the local consumer protection, as the curricula for the teaching program for consumer protection, in collaboration with the UBT and the MEST.

 

 

At the end of last year UBT organized a conference on “Consumer Protection 2012-2014” and during this conference UBT presented research in which the credibility of Kosovo citizens for the products is low. It was concluded that there is not sufficient security, there is not sufficient control of those products and there is not a long tradition. To help increase the reliability, UBT President Hajrizi had introduced two initiatives: Initiative “Quality Kosovo” QK, a body for quality and assessment and Curriculum Development Initiative for Consumer Protection, which was made public during this conference. It was discussed the possibility to integrate this curriculum in the study programs.
