The results of the research “The independence and credibility of the media in Kosovo”, presented today, are only the first part of a wider project, which foresees the realization of two other researches until the end of the year, to have a publication of the full reflection of the opinion of the citizens about this independence and the credibility of the media in our country.

Fazli Veliu, President of the Board of the Kosovo Media Institute, stressed that the research has more emphasized weight especially in the research of the credibility of the media, a field which is not so much explored in our country.

The research was conducted in the form of surveys, selected as such since the UBT and the KMI wish to provide primary data report. The respondents are selected randomly. Their age is from 18 to 78 years, while in the research the main regions of Kosovo have been covered. From 1200 respondents, 54.43 percent were male and 45.57 percent female.

Some of the respondents’ answers to the questions posed in the research were the following:

When asked what information they prefer, the answers are: local news (60.33 percent), international news (13.44 percent), sports news (21.15 percent), and other news (5.08 percent).

The respondents have also responded to questions on the independence of the media. 69.84 percent have expressed that in Kosovo there are independent media, whereas 30.16 percent say there are no independent media.

Whereas, related to the reliability of the media, the opinions of the respondents are as follows: 13.77 percent of the respondents say that the media are reliable, they call this element positive, 69.02 percent talk about and treat the reliability as average, whereas 17.21 percent call it negative.

The citizens have also given their responses about the reliability of the information/news on the Internet. Their answers are: Very good 5.90 percent, 58.69 percent moderately well and not at the right level 35.41 percent.
