26/10/2026

As part of UBT’s International Conference, the Faculty of Mechatronics presented scientific papers exploring developments in robotics, artificial intelligence, industrial automation, 5G communications, predictive maintenance, and mechanical engineering.

The first session, chaired by Fidan Smaili, with Betim Shabani as co-chair, featured research on robotics, mechanical analysis, engineering materials, and software development. The session opened with a keynote presentation by Ekrem Misimi, titled “The Frontier of Physical AI: From AI that Understands to Robots That Manipulate.”

The papers presented during this session included:

  • Ekrem Misimi – “The Frontier of Physical AI: From AI that Understands to Robots That Manipulate.”
  • Vassil Guliashki and Galia Marinova – “Building Resilience against Drone Threats: A Review of Emerging Counter-UAS Technologies and Intelligent Defense Systems.”
  • Ardit Dibrani, Roland Pula, and Fidan Smaili – “Parametric Sensitivity Analysis of a Vehicle Suspension Using a Mass Spring Dumper Model.”
  • Fidan Smaili and Tomaz Vuherer – “Effect of Heat Treatment Temperature on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of 18CrNiMo7-6 Steel.”
  • Getoar Krasniqi and Edmond Jajaga – “Building a Memory Safe Image Processing API through Declarative Programming in Haskell.”

The programme continued with the second session, chaired by Ylber Limani, with Liridona Dodaj as co-chair. This session focused on 5G communications, advanced manufacturing, sensor systems, predictive maintenance, and mathematical analysis.

The following papers were presented:

  • Xhafer Krasniqi and Edmond Hajrizi – “Performance of the AI Control Layer in a Private Outdoor 5G Open RAN Deployment: Field Evidence from a 15-Cell Multi-Vendor Trial.”
  • Oltiana Pllana and Betim Shabani – “Application of CAD_CAM and Additive Manufacturing in Design and Production Planning – The Case of a Robotic Arm.”
  • Ylber Limani, Leart Jahiri, and Land Llugiqi – “Predictive Maintenance Analysis in Industrial Internet of Things Enabled Industrial Motors.”
  • Ylber Limani, Rona Gashi, and Harisa Arifi – “Addressing Operational Challenges through IoT-Driven Predictive Maintenance in Smart Manufacturing.”
