Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation in Focus at the 67th EOQ Congress at UBT
23/10/2026Artificial intelligence, digital transformation, sustainable urban development, and the quality of society were at the center of discussions among international experts during a session of the 67th Congress of the European Organization for Quality (EOQ), held at UBT’s Science, Innovation and Technology Park. The session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Edmond Hajrizi, Rector of UBT.
The session brought together industry representatives, quality experts, and experienced local governance figures, who shared their perspectives on the impact of technology, innovation, and sustainability on the development of quality standards and the transformation of society.
Dr. Daniel Prell from Siemens Healthineers, in his presentation entitled “AI, Digital Transformation and Quality in Highly Regulated Industries,” addressed the importance of artificial intelligence and digital transformation in industries subject to stringent regulatory requirements. The discussion highlighted the role of quality, safety, and reliability in integrating new technologies, particularly in sectors where precision and compliance with standards are essential.
Meanwhile, Ricardo Rio, a representative of GeSI and former Mayor of Braga, presented “Quality, Digitalization and Sustainable Cities: From Local Leadership to Global Impact,” exploring the links between quality, digitalization, and sustainable urban development. He emphasized the importance of local leadership and digital solutions in improving governance and creating a positive global impact.
A long-term perspective on quality development was presented by Juhani Anttila, an academic and representative of the International Academy for Quality (IAQ) and Venture Knowledgist at Quality Integration. In his presentation, “A Long-Term Research Program on the Quality of Society,” he addressed quality as a concept that extends beyond organizational and institutional processes, connecting it with the long-term development of society and the need for systematic approaches to research, decision-making, and continuous improvement.
Continuing the session, the plenary discussion “What Will Quality Mean in 2030?” focused on the future of quality and how artificial intelligence, innovation, sustainability, and trust will shape its standards and practices in the coming years.
The discussions emphasized that quality in an increasingly digitalized world requires the integration of technology with responsibility, safety, transparency, and a focus on society’s needs. The exchange of international experiences provided an important platform for reflecting on current challenges and the opportunities digital transformation offers to industry, institutions, and communities.
