Public Health and Medical Sciences

In a period where global and local health challenges are taking new forms, and where the need for new health professions is more urgent than ever, UBT has accredited the academic program Bachelor in Public Health and Medical Sciences (180 ECTS). This three-year program has been carefully designed, integrating scientific knowledge, professional practice, and a contemporary vision to prepare the next generation of professionals who will lead the public health sector in Kosovo and beyond.

The program builds on UBT’s academic tradition, which for over a decade has offered high-quality programs in medical fields, including the Faculty of Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Radiology, Anesthesiology, Medical Biochemistry, as well as master’s studies in Public Health, Clinical Biochemistry, and Paramedical Sciences. The modern campus, the university polyclinic with over 20 outpatient clinics, the UNITED-UBT University Hospital, modern laboratories, and partnerships with over 500 universities and hospitals worldwide, create an ideal environment for student training in this field.

The mission of Public Health and Medical Sciences at UBT is to provide excellence in learning, teaching, and research in the field of health studies within a student-centered environment, oriented towards research, intellectually and academically stimulating, and productive. High-quality education in public health and medical sciences is essential for a culture of societal safety: it produces qualified professionals who contribute to advancing a safe and secure environment, sustainable growth and development through various innovative processes, including an effective balance of learning outcomes, assessment, and teaching activities, while also promoting research in public health and medical sciences and the interdisciplinary aspects of this field. These dimensions contribute to the overall well-being of individuals and communities.

The Bachelor in Public Health and Medical Sciences (BSc) emphasizes evidence-based care practices and professional development, keeping pace with social, scientific, and technological advances to meet the needs of the population it serves. The program provides a strong foundation for the development of clinical judgment and critical thinking skills to deliver safe, high-quality patient-centered care. It focuses primarily on theoretical and practical education, fostering independent thinking, the ability to make timely and accurate decisions, and the development of behavioral culture and ethical conduct toward the community and colleagues in the care team.

The BSc in Public Health and Medical Sciences is designed to prepare students for careers addressing the dynamic and ever-evolving needs of public health and healthcare systems. This program places a strong emphasis on evidence-based care practices, ensuring that students develop a deep understanding of evidence-based methodologies and scientific principles underlying health interventions, medical technologies, and patient care.

Employment Opportunities After Graduation

Graduates of this program will be qualified to work in:

Public Health Centers at the municipal and central levels;

Primary and preventive care institutions;

Ministry of Health, Ministry of Environment, or institutions involved in monitoring risk factors;

Food and Veterinary Agency, NGOs operating in public health, and projects by WHO, UNICEF, UNDP, etc.;

Health Promotion Centers in schools, communities, and educational institutions;

They may also pursue Master’s studies in Public Health and Management, Clinical Biochemistry, or Paramedical Sciences at UBT or abroad.
