UBT Staff Participates in the Annual Scientific Conference of the Technical University of Sofia in Bulgaria
22/05/2025The Rector of UBT, Prof. Dr. Edmond Hajrizi, together with Prof. Dr. Besnik Qehaja and other members of the academic staff, participated in the Annual Scientific Conference of the Technical University of Sofia, which was held in the city of Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
This event took place within the strategic project “Improving Research Capacities and Quality for International Recognition and Sustainability of TU–Sofia”, part of Bulgaria’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan, which aims to build a network of research higher education institutions in Bulgaria and beyond, also supported by the European Commission.
The participation of the UBT delegation was realized within the “Research Fellowship Programme”, where Rector Hajrizi and Prof. Qehaja presented their scientific works, in collaboration with internationally renowned researchers such as Galia Marinova, Vasil Gulashki, Elton Boshnjaku, and Behar Haxhismajli.
Since the beginning of the program in February of this year with the Institute for Scientific Research at the Technical University of Sofia, UBT staff has produced two internationally indexed scientific publications, as well as a book chapter in the field of Smart Grids, Internet of Things (IoT), and Artificial Intelligence – these fields being of strategic importance for the development of advanced technologies and digital transformation.
During the four days of the conference, over 30 research groups with approximately 200 scientists from all over the world participated, including researchers from Italy, Portugal, Romania, India, Colombia, France, Iran, Finland, Jordan, and Congo. In this context, the research group from UBT stood out with the results achieved in a very short time, but also with high-quality and relevant presentations, which were evaluated among the most advanced international works.
Rector Edmond Hajrizi, in his presentation, emphasized the role and infrastructural opportunities that UBT Smart City is offering to develop research, technology, and innovations that UBT has in about 150 fields of life, supporting interdisciplinarity, smart infrastructure, and sustainable development.
He presented the platform developed for the management and control of smart energy microgrids, which, among other things, is being installed for use in UBT Smart City, while Associate Professor Besnik Qehaja presented the network security aspect and its optimization for smart hospitals and clinics.
The conference also served as a platform for networking and international cooperation, where joint projects, technology transfer, intellectual property, and strengthening the role of research universities in sustainable economic development were discussed.
UBT continues to stand out as a leading institution in the region for scientific research and innovation, with active participation in European and international programs, and has achieved the fastest growth in scientific publications not only in Kosovo but also beyond.
It is no coincidence that in the latest Scimago ranking, UBT ranks first in Kosovo in the science session.
Participation in this conference not only affirms UBT’s position in the international academic arena but also opens new opportunities for cooperation, knowledge exchange, and the creation of joint projects that directly impact the scientific and technological development of Kosovo and the region.
UBT staff held very fruitful meetings for scientific collaborations with scientists from many countries around the world.
