At the University of Cambridge, one of the world’s most prestigious institutions, UBT Rector Prof. Dr. Edmond Hajrizi delivered a lecture on the innovative “UBT Smart City” model, a smart and sustainable ecosystem that has already been introduced in over 100 institutions worldwide.

With an audience of academics, researchers, and students, Rector Hajrizi shared his vision for the development of smart cities, highlighting the role of technology, artificial intelligence, and entrepreneurship in creating innovative solutions for urban challenges.

He also presented the “UBT 5S” concept (Small Scale Smart Sustain System), an entrepreneurial ecosystem successfully implemented at UBT, contributing to economic development, quality of life, and sustainable education.

Based on advanced digital technologies—5G networks, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality—UBT has developed the “UBT Smart City” concept, or “15-minute walk to the smart city.” This model, which includes laboratories, study rooms, libraries, technology centers, and other facilities, functions as a fully operational city for students and citizens within a 15-minute radius.

During his stay in Cambridge, Rector Hajrizi also held important meetings with various departments to discuss opportunities for further collaboration.

Together with the Center for Resilience and Sustainable Development, UBT has developed programs to create laboratories for simulations of labor and national policies aimed at sustainable development.

The programs and studies carried out cover topics such as child nutrition, energy, health provision, and capacity building for evaluating public institution performance. This initiative represents another step toward providing innovative and sustainable solutions to global challenges.

The visit to Cambridge and Rector Hajrizi’s lecture emphasize the importance of international partnerships and efforts to advance education and innovation globally, contributing to the strengthening of new collaborations and supporting research and initiatives that address shared global challenges.
