Rector Hajrizi: Science and innovation, UBT’s priority for Kosovo’s development in the international arena
13/01/2025UBT has made extraordinary progress, ranking among the top 100 universities in the world and distinguishing itself in specific fields such as artificial intelligence and entrepreneurship at the European level. This institution is positioned as the second university in Europe for access to entrepreneurship and 26th in the world for artificial intelligence, reinforcing its role as a leading educational and scientific center in Kosovo and beyond.
The Rector of UBT, Prof. Dr. Edmond Hajrizi, emphasized that scientific work is the institution’s main priority. During the 2024/2025 academic year, over 3,000 students enrolled at UBT, with 75% of them focused on STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and management) and 25% in other fields. According to Hajrizi, UBT has significantly benefited from European and international projects, increasing the number of double degrees and scientific research projects in cooperation with prestigious institutions from the USA and Europe.
“We have seen significant increases in international rankings, both for entrepreneurship and for innovation and artificial intelligence. Also, we have created over a thousand jobs, contributing significantly to the country’s economic development,” he emphasized.
UBT has worked to put Kosovo on the international map of scientific research, through digitalization and the development of technological applications that help sectors such as public education and healthcare.
“We have created opportunities for free medical treatments and have helped public schools and institutions with innovative solutions,” added Rector Hajrizi, underlining that higher education in Kosovo still needs advancement, especially in terms of scientific rankings.
During 2024, UBT has applied for several new study programs, including doctorates in the field of international medicine and the expansion of global accreditations. The institution is also engaged in the development of smart city 2025 components, an initiative that aims to place Kosovo at the center of technology and innovation.
UBT has expanded its network of collaborations with international universities and institutions such as those in Vienna, Italy, Germany, Warsaw, Spain, Britain, and the USA, strengthening double degree programs and sharing advanced knowledge in technology and science.
Future goals
reflecting on these achievements, UBT aims to further increase its impact on the global stage through the advancement of scientific work and the integration of Kosovo into international education and research networks.
“Our priority for 2025 will be the development of scientific work, so that Kosovo looks better in global statistics and is represented at high levels,” concluded Rector Hajrizi.
With these achievements and dedication, UBT is positioning itself as a leader in higher education and an important pillar in Kosovo’s development in the international arena.
