Deputy Ambassador of Britain to Kosovo, Dr. Paul O’Connor, speaks of working through English language with UBT students

At the UBT premises, a thematic lecture was held by the Deputy Ambassador of the British Embassy in Kosovo, Dr. Paul O’Connor, on the topic: “The importance of English language studies to work in embassies”. This activity was aimed at promoting English as an essential tool for building an international career and inspiring students to consider the possibility of a diplomatic career.

Dr. O’Connor emphasized that English is the universal language of diplomacy, international politics and intercultural relations. He also emphasized that its recognition offers employment opportunities, not only in embassies, but also in international organizations and other global institutions. Through his personal experience as a graduate of English literature, Dr. O’Connor shared inspirational examples for students, showing that studies in this field had endowed with critical, analytical and communication skills, which are essential for a high official in diplomacy.

His lecture emphasized some key powers that students have to develop to pursue a diplomatic career. The ability to communicate clearly and influential, knowledge of international cultures and systems, as well as critical thinking and analytical skills, are some of the most important qualities for a professional in this field.

Dr. O’Connor encouraged students to fully engage in their studies and take advantage of opportunities for international practices and experiences, which may be essential for developing their careers. He also reminded students that diplomacy requires constant commitment and commitment to learn and improve their skills.

Following the lecture, a question and answer session was held, where students raised questions about Dr. O’Connor in his profession, employment opportunities at international embassies for Kosovar students and developing diplomatic career skills. Dr. O’Connor offered detailed and encouraging answers, offering a practical and motivating perspective to students who are interested in diplomatic careers.

This activity was received with great interest from UBT students and academic staff. Lecture was a tremendous opportunity to understand the importance of English as a strategic tool in diplomacy and to get inspiration from the experience of a successful professional. Following this activity, students were helped to better understand the opportunities the diplomatic career offers and the role of English in helping their professional development.
